The Apple Ecosystem

People talk about the Apple ecosystem as if it were complicated. It simply means your Apple devices are built to work together. Once it is set up, the device in your hand already knows what the others are doing.

Here are five ways it saves time every day. Your future self will thank you!

START ON ONE DEVICE, FINISH ON ANOTHER: This is called Handoff.

  • Begin an email or a note on your iPhone.

  • Pick up your iPad or Mac.

  • Look for the app's icon at the edge of the Dock on a Mac or iPad, or at the bottom of the App Switcher on an iPhone.

COPY HERE, PASTE THERE: Apple calls this Universal Clipboard.

  • Sign in to the same Apple Account on both devices, with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned on.

  • Copy text or a photo on your iPhone.

  • Paste it on your Mac a few seconds later.

SEND A FILE WITHOUT EMAIL: AirDrop sends photos and documents to a nearby Apple device.

  • Tap the Share button.

  • Choose AirDrop.

  • Pick the person or device.

KEEP EVERYTHING IN SYNC: With iCloud turned on, your photos, notes, reminders, and contacts match on every device. Add a reminder on your watch and it is waiting on your phone.

FIND WHAT YOU LOST: The Find My app shows your devices on a map.

  • Open the Find My app.

  • Tap Devices and choose the one you misplaced.

  • Tap Play Sound to help you find it.

You can also share your location with family, which is a real comfort when you are looking after someone.

You do not need every Apple device to benefit. Start with the two you already own and turn on one of these this week.
